Mountain Born

Price: $14.95
Item Number: CD-2197
I find I love best sitting on my cabin porch, with family around – my husband, sons, sisters, nieces and nephews from down the hill – “singing the moon up” as our family did when I was a child. We might just sing, and then there might be instruments coming in – dulcimers, a guitar, a fiddle, recorders.

So writes Appalachian folk singer Jean Ritchie about the music of the mountains which she has recorded here. This is a recording of songs to share, again, a way of life, a loved place in the world, all the memories gathered and passed on by the people there.

In addition to singing in many Revels performances around the country, Jean Ritchie was a presenter at a Revels Salon. Eclectic in content and social in nature, the Revels Salons are a series of lecture-discussions and performances held at the Commander's Mansion in Watertown, MA highlighting favorite Revels artists or those involved with Revels both backstage and in our seasonal stage productions.

None But One High Hills and Mountains
Enhanced by the old timey stringband playing of the "Fresno Friends" the resulting recording provides an exuberant sampling of some of the best of Jean's music.
